Overview of Job:
News International is a proud company with a long standing history of Investigative Journalism. With three market leading titles it sets the benchmark for the British Newspaper market.  As a corporation it has recently attracted a log of media attention and its corporate reputation has been dented as a result. 
This has put the Corporate Affairs team at the forefront of much business activity.  This role will be positioned at the heart of the teamwith the intention of keeping the Corporate Affairs team and the NI Executive fully briefed on media activity about NI.  Through media monitoring they will deliver timing, accurate and succinct media updates to enable NI to improve it to monitor and track its corporate reputation.
This is a great entry level role for someone with the right attitude and aptitude.  We anticipate the need to cover two shifts within this role – early morning (6.30am – 14.30) and evening (2.pm - 9.30pm). 

Key Accountabilities:
Preparation of daily press analysis and cuttings to be presented in a written report to enable NI executives to keep in touch with lead stories and how they are being portrayed
Monitors in real time television channels, daily papers, blogs, and social media to understand how NI is being represented and able to bring this to the attention of the most appropriate person
Will be able to conduct research to enable them to understand what is behind a story, locate sources or specific agendas
Works within the NI Executive team to understand the needs of NI and the impact of stories on its company brand and integrity.
Preparation of cuttings from national newspapers and trade journals.

Key Skills & Experience:
An understanding of how the media works
Some experience in research and analysis to enable them to interpret tone, audience, channel and language implications for news messages
Familiar with search and research tools such as factiva.
Is familiar with social media and how viral messages are spread
Previous experience of turning data into intelligence that informs businesses
Has a thirst for following the news
Written communications skills - is precise and careful with language
Is able to prioritise key facts  when presented with vast quantities of data
Able to interpret, summarise and prioritise data, and demonstrates curiosity to pursue links between facts
Attention to Detail
Has good judgement about issues, and potential implications
Able to work independently and in a complex matrix organisation
Understand journalism – the ethics, regulations, practices and content creation process.
